Since 1899, A.M. Best has issued in-depth reports and financial strength ratings for insurance organizations. We've consistently been ranked in the top 50% of all companies rated by A.M. Best.
Their Financial Strength Ratings are also assigned a Rating Outlook, indicating the potential direction of a company's rating for an intermediate period, generally defined as the next 12 to 36 months.
We have been assigned a stable outlook, which indicates we show stable financial and market trends. There is a low likelihood this rating will change in the near term.

From 2005 to 2008, Ward Group recognized us as one of the top 50 property and casualty insurance companies in the United States.
Ward's analysis recognizes companies that excel in balancing safety and consistency, and companies that have achieved superior performance over the most recent five years.
The Ward Group benchmarks companies performance with the industry overall. They conducted separate reviews of the property-casualty and life and health segments. Approximately 3,000 property-casualty companies were analyzed along with approximately 900 life and health companies.
Demotech, Inc.
Columbia Mutual Insurance Company has been selected as a "Super Regional" by Demotech, Inc. in 2007, 2009, and 2010.
Demotech, Inc. is a Columbus, Ohio based financial analysis and actuarial consulting firm. They reviewed many Property and Casualty companies, and only 165 qualified as Super Regionals.
Here are a few "Super Regional" criteria:
- $100,000,000 or more of policyholders surplus
- Net written premium of at least $50 million
- Direct written premium of at least $25 million
